I have been a Partner in the firm of Gadens Lawyers since 1993 and have practiced extensively in construction and development law for more than 25 years. I lead the Construction Law practice at Gadens in Melbourne which is an integral part of the overall Property Development and Construction Group in Melbourne.

I have extensive experience in preparing and negotiating all types of agreements and documentation for building and engineering projects, and I am also active in representing clients in expert determinations, mediation, arbitration and litigation. I frequently advise on and prepare amendments to the industry standard form contracts, and advise on all relevant and applicable legislation. The projects extend across commercial office and industrial developments to retail and residential and engineering and civil projects. My clients include developers, financial and other institutions, builders and designers.

I hold a law degree and I am qualified as a Grade 3 Arbitrator for the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia. I am admitted to practice in Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia.

Examples of the diverse projects in which I have been involved and played a key role include:
• representing the design and construct contractor for Docklands Stadium, now Etihad Stadium,
• the major upgrade of CSR's industrial facilities at Yarraville,
• Victoria Albert apartments project class action,
• South Wharf & Melbourne Convention Centre,
• Numerous projects and disputes in respect of schools, including in relation to the Comm. BER schools project,
• representing parties in claims under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment legislation in various States,
• Alterations and extensions to numerous shopping centres across Australia,
• office buildings at 8 Exhibition Street,550 Bourke Street and 181 William Street, 700 and 720 Bourke Street Melbourne, and 140 William Street Perth,
• numerous apartment , including several at Docklands, and
• representing financiers in numerous projects from apartments to civil works to marinas health and aged care and offices and retail.

Prior to joining a predecessor firm of Gadens I was employed at another firm in Melbourne and worked in London at Linklaters & Paines from 1982-1983, having been admitted to practice in 1978. I graduated with an LLB from the University of Melbourne in 1977.

I have been involved in a number of professional and community related organisations:
• Technical Committee of the Property Council of Australia,
• Infrastructure Committee of the Property Council of Australia,
• Victorian Chapter Committee of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators, Australia,
• Committee of the Building Disputes Practitioners' Society,

• Member of Council and subsequently Chair of Council of an independent girls school.
