Social media & technology

Cyber bullying describes the use of the internet in a threatening, harassing, bullying or offensive way. In certain cases, threatening or bullying behaviour online may be a crime. People have been convicted in recent years of threatening behaviour, racial vilification, stalking and defamation exclusively as a result of their online conduct. In addition to this, there are other non-criminal sanctions that may result from inappropriate online behaviour. These may include blocking by mobile and internet service providers, websites and social media platforms. This is because most websites and service providers have terms and conditions which concern online bullying.
